Coach has offered a wide range of leather types and finishes over the years, so knowing how a particular style should look - and what type of leather it should have - is a far more accurate indicator.įor those who remember the "heft" of many of Coach's vintage bags, the bags made in the 2000's can be a bit of a shock. It looks to be a style 7542 Hamptons Leather Buckle Demi bag, made in January of 2005.Ĭoach has used many different types and weights of leather over the years, and t he leather used in the bag you show here was not the really heavy stuff used in certain of Coach's older styles. This one was made of "lightweight" leather (Coach's own words) and comparing the material to that used in bags of other styles isn't a valid means of proving or disproving its authenticity. And it might be a good idea if you bought your purses right from the makers own stores from now on. If youve already accused that seller of selling a fake, you owe her a HUGE apology. Coach has made literally thousands of different style purses using a huge variety of leather types and processing methods over the last 40 years since their style numbers are already close to 30,000, so just how much experience do you have with every style theyve made? I dont see any history of you selling Coach purses so I dont understand why you think you know what theyre supposed to look and feel like. Ive been authenticating Coach purses and other items for at least 7 years and theres NOTHING wrong with that one. Honestly, the more I read your post, the more amazed I am that youre even thinking that purse isnt right.
Not only is the purse EXACTLY like its supposed to be, it even has the "bulls-eye" outlet stamp that means it was transferred from the full-price store to one of the Factory Outlet stores when the style was retired. All youve offered is your own opinions that dont seem to be based on any kind of facts or even experience with Coach purses. Shes 100 percent within her rights to do that, and I would do exactly the same thing. WHY DO YOU HAVE THAT LISTED AS A CRITICISM? Would it be better if, like you, she had no record of selling purses, or had a bunch of Neutrals and Negatives? Im really confused here. You yourself said "seller has perfect feedback and specializes in purses." That tells me that she knows the product and makes sure what she sells is authentic. Tell us what kind of "evidence" youd believe. What kind of evidence is she supposed to produce? Theres no such thing as proof of authenticity from Coach for ANY of their products, the proof is that there arent any signs of it being fake and that its exactly the way its supposed to be. "seller offers no evidence or background on this purse to reinforce claims of authenticity" Just how many real Coaches have you bought? The leather is often doubled along the main seams and the double-thickness seams sewn, not glued like you seem to think. "seams are glued shut one cannot turn back the edge of a seam to see the backing of the material used". Well no, it doesnt look like its been used much, how is that a problem? So all barely-used purses are fake? Would it be more believable if it looked like it had been run over by a truck? " shows none of the traditional signs of used leather"

The picture matches the style in Coaches catalogs EXACTLY, all the stitching details are right, the creed stamping is exactly like it should be, the serial number is right including the right fonts for that plant and year.

Theres also a page from Coach that was saved and cached by the Internet Archive site in April of 2004 showing that exact purse. Other people here can probably figure it out -December 22nd. Youve already been pointed in the right direction. I found a cached copy of Coachs webpage at another site and I think youd better take a look at it.
Your comments about it not weighing enough I just dont understand - its LIGHTWEIGHT leather. Its also almost 9 years old so Im not surprised the leather smell isnt there any more, I have a ton of real Coaches that dont have a strong or even noticeable leather smell and theyre completely genuine. Coachs description of that purse says its LIGHTWEIGHT leather and thats going to have a different texture and feel than the regular cowhide.
